E-way Bill for Export Transactions: Rules and Requirements

Eway bills for exports are another thing that companies need help with so they don’t get fined in the future if they do it wrong. E-Way Bill, which went into effect on April 1, 2018, says that a bill must be made for every movement of goods. This includes goods that are exported and goods that are brought into the country. In our last article about E-way Bill for import, we looked at the rules for importing. In this article, we’ll talk more about E-way Bill for Exports.

Applicability of E-way Bill for Exports

After the goods are taken from the exporter’s business location to a port, airport, or warehouse, the Customs Act outlines the steps that must be taken to clear the goods so that they can be sent to their final destination outside India. Since there is movement of goods, an Eway Bill needs to be made in the following situations:

  1. E-Way Bill Required:
    1. Goods are moved from the exporter’s business to an inland container depot, container freight station, or warehouse.
  2. E-Way Bill not required:
    1. Goods are moved from an Inland Container Depot (ICD) or a Container Freight Station (CFS) to a Custom Port, Airport, or Warehouse.
    2. The movement of goods from one customs station or port to another.
Eway Bill Required

Note that an E-Way Bill is not needed if the goods being exported fall under Rule 138 (14) of the CGST Act (E-way Bill Rules). When this happens, the goods are moved from the exporter’s business to the ICD, CFS, or Warehouse.
