All About Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana

Introduction

Skill development is a key part of improving social and economic factors. The “Make in India” programme was also started with a goal in mind. The main goal is to improve the skills of a large number of people in an efficient way.

A plan was made by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MoHUPA). It is called Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana (DAY). The Indian government has given Rs. 500 crore for this plan.

The main goal of the yojana is to help poor people in cities. It will be done by making it easier to make a living in a sustainable way through skill development.

The plan also aims to help street vendors in cities make a living. It aims to give them social security, skills, a good place to live, etc. This will help them take advantage of new market opportunities.

DAY is in integration with two missions. They are as follows:

  • National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) and
  • National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM).

Let’s find out everything about DAY-NULM and DAY-NRLM.

DAY-NULM

The DAY and the NULM work together. Its use helps urban poor households get out of debt and get out of poverty. This plan was made by the MoHUPA. It gives low-income people in cities the chance to work for themselves or for a skilled wage. This will lead to an increase in their income that will last. It will also build strong institutions for the poor on a basic level.

Mission of DAY-NULM

DAY-NULM is meant to do the following:

Help the poor people in cities set up their own institution. This will give them enough power to get money, learn new skills, and do a lot more.

Help the poor run their institutions, from the city to the country. For example, a programme to help people make a living is run by the poor and the institutions that help them. It moves forward in a way that is limited by time. A strong institutional base like this will help the poor in many ways. It will give them more money, friends, and other resources.

Features of DAY-NULM

There are many things that help poor people in cities. Here are some of these things:

  • Institution development and social mobilisation
  • Help for businesses that offer Urban Street Training and capacity building
  • Programs for people who want to work for themselves Shelters for the homeless in cities

Application of the DAY-NULM

The UTs and states have to send progress reports on goals and accomplishments every month or every three months. They will have to set up a way to keep track of how the parts are doing.

The following will be part of the monitoring process:

  • Social audit,
  • Third party assessment,
  • Effect on assessment studies, etc.

The MoHUA mission directorate will give clear instructions. These will be about how each sub-component and main component of DAY-NULM works. They are ready to run, keep an eye on, and use.

DAY-NRLM

In June 2011, a programme was set up by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD). It was the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (Aajeevika). The goal of this plan is to make platforms for institutions that work well and efficiently. People in the countryside can make more money and get better access to financial services.

One goal of this programme is to help 7 crore poor rural households work together to make a living. The programme helps the poor in cities get access to their rights, public services, and other things. Its name was changed to DAY- NRLM in November 2015.

Mission of DAY-NRLM

The goal of DAY-NRLM is to make rural areas less poor. People can find ways to earn a living and work for themselves. This will help them make a better living by making them stronger.

The plan focuses on a few things to get poor people involved in the organised industry. Here’s what these points are:

  • Make a link between poor people in rural areas and ways to make a living.
  • Give the skills needed and build the capacity

The programme plan will be divided up based on how much poverty is in each area. It will use a plan based on what people want. The states will be strong enough to make their annual action plan. Aside from that, it can make plans for the future based on how people make a living to help reduce poverty.

Features of DAY-NRLM

Here are some things about the DAY-NRLM:

  • Financial inclusion
  • Livelihoods
  • Sensitive Support Structures
  • Global Social Mobilization
  • All time community funds as resources
  • Participatory Identification of Poor (PIP)
  • Partnerships and meetings

Application of the DAY-NRLM

The TIME- NRLM has been used for more than a decade. It aims to help about 13,500 low-income families in blocks. These people live in 100 to 120 villages. For easy use, these villages are split into four groups. Each group will have 30 villages.

There are four ways to put a block in place. Here’s what they are

1. Intensive blocks:

Application with a person from the internal community who can help.

2. Non-intensive blocks:

Indicate the blocks that are not used in the first step of the application process.

3. Resource blocks:

The National Resource Organization helps this block keep running.

4. Partnership blocks:

Two bodies work together to make these blocks work. They are partners with NGOs and members of the local community union.

Conclusion

There are many plans set up to help poor people improve their lives. DAY is one of these Government projects. The National Rural Livelihood Mission set it up in 2011.

In 2021, the Union Cabinet has given Rs. 520 crore. For the UTs, J&K, and Ladakh, this is done as part of DAY-NRLM. The approved amount will be good until the end of the fiscal year 2023–2024.
