GST Filing & Registration Service for Food Delivery Apps on Restaurant Services

Friday, the GST Council agreed with a plan that public food delivery platforms like Swiggy and Zomato should charge 5% GST after getting GST Registration. After the first lockdown and delivery of food from restaurants, the pandemic was good for food delivery platforms like Swiggy and Zomato. At the end of the year, their orders were 120% higher than they were before the outbreak. It has also caused restaurants to have more deliveries. We’ll learn about GST on restaurant services in this article.

Several ideas have been put forward to make the platform in charge of GST. Return Filing will be talked about at their meeting on September 17 in Lucknow (GST).

Stats show that food supply aggregators lost a total of 2,000 crore in taxes over the last two years because they may not have reported all of their income. These apps have been officially signed up as Tax Collectors at Source (TCS). So, the new decision that Food Delivery Apps Liable to Pay GST on Restaurant Services will have a big effect on these apps. In this article, we’ll talk about the most recent change to GST on Restaurant Services.

Reasons why Government made Food Delivery Apps Liable to Pay GST and have GST Registration

This plan was made because Swiggy and Zomato were not registered for GST, which is required by law. This meant that restaurants that were not registered were not paying GST on food deliveries.
FM Sitharaman has now said that customers who used to pay restaurants a 5% food supply fee will now pay Zomato and Swiggy. So, it will help the government stop money from leaking out.

Revenue Secretary Clarifies GST on Restaurant Services

Tarun Bajaj, who is in charge of the Revenue Department, said that this decision does not add any new taxes and is only meant to move where the GST is collected. Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj has said that the change will not affect end users and that they will not have to pay any more taxes because of it.

He explains GST on restaurant services by giving an example: if you order food through the aggregator, the restaurant now has to pay taxes. But we discovered that some restaurants didn’t pay. “We are now saying that if you order, the aggregator will collect from the customer and pay the authorities instead of the restaurant,” Bajaj said.

“Another way restaurants can keep charging GST is by classifying the food aggregator as a merchant (and consumer).”

It will be the same as getting tax money from the food aggregator,” he said.
